About the Sixth Form

Support and preperation for transition to adulthood
Our approach
At our sixth form, our focus is on preparing students for their transition into adulthood, employment and life after education. We have a variety of vocational areas where students will hone their skills alongside a robust careers programme as part of a broad curriculum.
Staff in our supportive adult learning environment have a high level of knowledge and skills in SEND.
We focus on employability skills within our safe business centre model, which enables students to try new skills and develop confidence before having to go out into the world of work. We are able to offer students time to explore different work environments through workplace trips and visits which can then lead on to work experience placements.
Our skills careers team work with employers to ensure that our students' needs are understood and supported to enable that student to add value to their business. Our intention is for all our students to find their place in the world of work and community to live a meaningful and fulfilling life.

Typical day for Sixth Form - table
A cooked meal is provided daily and we cater to dietary requirements as needed. And as at the high school site, there is no staffroom, so staff and students eat lunch together. Parents/Carers may choose to send a packed lunch, or students may wish to purchase food from Barnard’s Green in their second year, once they have permission to do so.
Work experience and careers support
Careers support is central to student’s curriculums, once they become settled with us. Students will meet weekly with a specialist careers coach and begin the process of exploring progression opportunities. They will have opportunities to visit colleges and workplaces and to go on work placements. They will have support looking for work, writing applications and cvs and attending interviews. Travel training and managing personal budgets are also covered.
